Carpenter Apprentice

Step 1 of 7 - General Information

  • Reports to: Superintendent

    Schedule: Full-Time

    Position Summary:Assist with constructing and repairing building frameworks and structures made from wood and metal. Installation of millwork carpentry, doors & other specialty items.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
    • Ability to follow blueprints and building plans to meet client needs.
    • Assist with constructing and installing structures and fixtures.
    • Ability to measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
    • Construct building framework, including walls, floors, and door frames. Help with erecting, leveling, and installing the building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes.
    • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
    • Assist with demolition.
    • Learn and practice essential carpentry skills on the job.
    • Ability to work on staging and above ground.
    • Taping experience a plus.
    • Willingness to perform non-carpentry tasks as needed (cleaning, demo, floor, prep, etc.)
    • Cleanliness, working in clean environments and occupied spaces
    • Instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers.
    • Work in a safe, OSHA-approved manner
    • Maintain a positive attitude
    • Provide a good work ethic and effort towards all assigned tasks
    • Willingness to learn new tasks
    • Share knowledge and help train others
    • Demonstrate consistent attendance
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate clearly with the team.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

    Hiring Requirements/Preferences:
    • Minimum of 6 months of commercial carpentry
    • Familiar with common power and hand tools.
    • Metal & Wood Framing experience.
    • Drywall experience preferred.
    • Millwork and casework installation
    • Doors, frames, and hardware installation
    • Must be able to travel to the jobsite(s) as assigned
    • Valid driver's license
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Proficient at reading blueprints or ability to learn
    • Minimum tools required: tape measure, hammer, utility knife, tool belt, speed square, chalk line, torpedo level, and driver index. HP Cummings will provide power tools.
    • Strong organization skills and dedication to completing projects in a timely manner,
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
    • Experience with computers and technology, a plus
    • OSHA-10 training preferred, but will provide

    Working hours are 7:00am to 3:30pm. Please come to the site early enough to start work at 7:00am and be prepared to work up until 3:30pm.
    Overtime may be offered to stay on schedule
